WHAT IS BIO WASTE?
Do you know how much food waste Pakistan generates annually?
Pakistan generates approximately 36 million tons of Food Waste Annually. Most of it come from Urban Cities. In 2018, according to The Punjab Board of Investment & Trade, Solid Waste in Lahore is approximately 6510 tons per day with a growth rate of 2.4% annually. Approximately 30% of all waste collected is Food Waste. By Current Metrics & Rapid Urbanisation, Lahore is currently generating upwards of 7000 tons of waste per day, and 2100 tons of this is food waste. Most waste in Pakistan ends up in Landfills. Food waste in Landfills generates CO2 & toxic Methane Plumes (CH4 - 25x more deadly as a Green House Gas (GHG) as compared to CO2). This is detrimental to the planet, and contributes dangerously to the effects of climate change..
In addition, landfills devastates the soil, reducing its ability to capture carbon, and causes dangerous toxins to run off into our river systems.
